Our countryside home, that we had just decorated with a real Christmas tree, got suddenly filled with a cloud of desert tree's resin and fields of lavender.
When I opened that tiny purple bottle, made of real flower petals, it led me to something magical.
A journey that I had sought for a long time had begun.
Have you ever been seeking something that has such a deep meaning for you?
And maybe noticed that for some reason it has no meaning at all for people around you.
The worst thing, I used to do to myself, and that you could do in that situation, is this.
To water down that deep meaning that this thing has for you.
Just because others have different likes and tastes.
I'll share a glimpse of my story, to inspire you to say that big yes for the things that matter deeply to you in your life.
You may have noticed that I am a huge fan of essential oils, but how it all started for me was pretty interesting.
Even when I was a little girl I loved beautiful scents.
I tried making "perfume" from rose petals in my granny's farmyard garden.
Needless to say I realized how many rose petals I would have needed and decided to move on to just drying pretty plants in between books.
I tried my first essential oil as a teenager, tea tree oil bought from Body Shop as a remedy for my very difficult facial skin.
I loved it.
I treasured certain perfumes when I was approaching my twenties and beyond.
I fancied cleaning my bathroom each week as a newlywed with an eucalyptus scented chlorine.
I hunted different scents in laundry detergents.
I took pictures and hunted some more of the beautifully scented softeners my air bnb host had in their house.
I treasured scented candles.
I chose certain cosmetics just for their scent.
I adored my chosen sunscreen because its scent took me back to Hawaii.
I celebrated the scented pencils I found for my kids from the Swedish ferry, just what I had had and loved when I was a school aged kid.
And the same celebration happened with the scented erasers.
And then my friend took me her essential oils to support my body when I had the flu while in Hawaii for the last time.
I thought their scent was peculiar.
Think of herbs of different kinds.
And when I returned back home from Hawaii my friends at work bought me a gift of local lavender essential oil.
I found it very interesting, once again.
After that whole long journey as a scents lover my curiosity had grown so uncontrollable for the essential oils, that I took the leap.
I ordered my own choice of essential oils and as a starter a set of all 12 of them.
The most versatile ones with a diffuser, because I wanted to try out the "home spa" style.
And when I opened that tiny lavender bottle, as one of the two first bottles, there was no going back for me.
Every morning and every night I hold that bottle in my hands.
Well, not that very same bottle, but my lavender.
Because of what it means to me.
My connection with this scent is hard to describe.
That similar feeling, when you hold a little baby who snuggles in your arms.
That's what it means to me.
When you think of yourself, what is that deeply meaningful thing in your life that sets you apart from others?
Something maybe they don't have any passion for but you couldn't live without.
Be gentle and honest with yourself.
It's okay to have treasures others don't recognize as ones.
It's okay to know what you deeply love.
And to go for it.
Hold space for yourself and what you deeply love in your life.
To know yourself and to make yourself known as you are, that's just so beautiful.
